ICE WARRIORS 2D ANIMATED PROJECT

This project, will hopefully be a collaboration between tOy and I. I haven't really discussed the details with him. But my plan is to animate Episodes Two and Thee of the Ice Warriors project in Cosgrove Hall style, it's quite an ambitious plan. So for the moment I just want to do a test of the first scene to see if we can work together and get an efficient working work flow.

So, what I imagine we will do is something like this:

- I post a storyboard of images, showing the composition and number of shots that will be used in the scene. Along with a *roughtly* animated version using whatever material is available. Along with a list of assets that are needed for the scene, with assets that are already ready removed (or marked) off from the list. At the moment that is zero, so I imagine the first few  scenes are going to be a bit of a slog. Sorry.

-So then tOy gets to have the good fun of creating the character images for the scene. I don't mind how long this takes really, we aren't working to any kind of deadline. I don't know if you want to create and break up the heads, mouth positions etc, or if you want me to. Whatever you prefer.

-Then when that is done, I will take away all those assets and animate the scene. I will create the background / foreground elements using screengrabs and other available material, and using the same photoshop filters- looks as Cosgrove Hall used in their "Invasion" animation.

-So, when that's done,  I will prepare the next scene, and start the whole thing over. After a scene or two, I hope that while I am animating one scene, you will be creating the assets for the next scene.

What do you think? I think it should work, I am not in any kind of rush here. And of course if you need any reference material to work from, give me a shout!

EPISODE TWO- Scene One
The first scene is very short, only about 17 seconds or so, however there is quite a lot of action, and the existing telesnaps don't match up to the camera script. So I have had to alter the listed shots. But hopefully it is in a way sympathetic to the original sequence. It's a very fast scene, so some of the notes might be a little hard to read.

This is a rough animated version of the scene with audio, showing the rough cutting, matching the audio and camera scripts as much as I can. I am not posting it on youtube to cut down on unwanted visitors. I am not sure on the code to imbed it:

http://s24.photobucket.com/albums/c20/ColonelBarker/IceWarriors_Storyboard/?action=view&current=Ep2_sc1_storyboard_001_small.flv

So along with that, to make the scene easier to see, here are all the major layouts that we will need for the scene.

Hopefully  that gives you a good idea of what I want to do with the scene. The screengrabs don't have all the semi-animated shots obviously.

To save  time, I have created a list of assets needed to put together the scene. I have marked  what heads are 'animatable ones' although we don't see them move much or talk in this scene, they will be reused again, and again throughout the rest of the animation.

To save time, I have broken the assets up to heads and bodies, as the heads take much longer to create. If there are any scene specific poses- ie Jamie laying on the couch, I have reference the shot it comes from

Right- tOy let me know what you think, or if I have given you or I too much work. As I said at the top- I think we should do this scene as a test to see how we work together. If you want to pull out now it's not too late! If you post WIP images here that would be great, but obviously I would prefer it if you emailed me the fla files directly.

Cheers,
Aaron

Excellent, as you suggested, I am preparing some assets for the Stor / Penley scene, the only scene in episode Two, I believe without any of the regulars.

Hi! this is my first post !

Just wanted to say all your work is excellent!

Why did you choose to do The Ice Warriors? With the recent annoucement that 2 stories are in development by 2entertain wouldnt it be better to do a story we might never see eg The Moonbase

A number of factors, largely because I have very low hopes for the 2|E projects being completed. And of course, I have all the assets here, and a potential finished version of the Ice Warriors made by a tOy and myself has a much, much higher chance of being released then a version of the Moonbase. Given that the Ice Warriors episodes will be released at some point.

Welcome to the forum.

Just a quick update for tOy and anyone reading.

We have decided to move the test scene to the scene between Stor / Penley in episode two. However, I need to create a storyboard of images for that scene. I am getting to it as fast as I can to be honest.

In other news, tOy and I have been swapping files (ooo eeerr!) to see if we can work fine between our various animation programs. Everything seems to be going well. Now I just need to pull my finger out and get on with it.

Cheers,
Aaron

I'm really looking forward to seeing your animation Aaron, I haven't seen any of your 2D work.
Any chance of a sneak preview?

We haven't had an update on this project for a little while.  Any chance of a looksee???  Keen to see your take on the Ice Warrior - I've seen Tygerbug's and I've been struggling with my own.  Would be interested to see what tOy made of it!!!

Kind Regards

I am afraid I haven't touched this project since my past post.

In the last month my life has literally fallen apart for various reasons.

I know I have been away for a while, I haven't had a chance to do any work on this project. I have been out looking for a job.

I have a couple of PM's asking about some of my own Ice Warrior drawings, I have done about 70 images all up. Just trying to get the style of the Cosgrove Hall material, and finding my own way. I am not a 2D artist by trade, and it's been fun trying to get the likeness of some of these characters.

I am by no means 'there', but here are some of my favourite little ones. I have found Jamie /  Victoria the hardest to capture.

Victoria  Faces an Ice Warrior. I can see no one is impressed. 30 people have looked and no comments. It's okay. I am still learning about 2D art.

Hi CB just caught up with your thread today and it’s great to see you’re getting on with the 2D project!
I do find it difficult with stills to imagine how the characters will animate - have you done any animation tests you can show?
Are you not working with tOy on the project now I thought he was doing the artwork?
Good luck with it anyway
