I've been a member here for a while now without actually posting anything, so I thought I would share this, my interpretation of the Marsh Dalek from the 1964 Dalek Book. I still need to resolve some issues with the construction of the legs as it really needs a sliding joint adding to the ankle (I just bodged it this time for the render of the Dalek walking) but on the whole I think its pretty close to completion.

Excellent model and quite freaky, as I have the same annual and was thinking about doing that very model.   Grin

I'm also going to have a go a doing the map of Skaro in Vue once I reinstall it.

Cool, I hope seeing my model will inspire you to have a go at your own, there are a lot of good ideas in those old 60's and 70's annuals that are worth revisiting in CGI.

I think Vue is likely to become my new best buddy when it comes to building the marshes of Gurnian for a background, I'm not sure I would fancy tackling a map of Skaro though, I will be interested to see how that turns out.

I think if I do do Skaro in Vue, then it might be in the exaggerated style like those British Gas adverts.

I'll use it for backgrounds like yourself in other pics.

Whoa!  Those "marsh" Daleks actually had webbed feet in the original comic?  I've only seen that one image (the one where you've matted your digital construct) so I had no idea.

So, are we gonna' eventually see this design in your "Second Empire" comic?

Sincerely,

Bill

The webbed feet were my idea, there were only two full shots of the marsh Dalek in the book and both were standing in water so you couldn't see how the legs ended, but if you've ever tried crossing a marsh on stilts you will know that without some way of spreading the load you quickly become stuck and so I chose this option as being fairly logical.

The marsh Dalek will be appearing in my comic, but not as a featured model, it will have a background role in a museum scene, along with a number of other non-standard Dalek types.
