Very nice facial animation (never a strong point of mine), I'm impressed with the character you managed ot get into the facial animation to be honest. I've seen some pro's who's animations have less character!  I haven't had time to read the whole thread yet (but will), what are you using for the animation software wise?

You are right about the relasionship between the model and the standard of animation to be honest. The better the model the more spot on the animation has to be if your going to avoid the 'uncanny valley'.  Once a ligthing scheme is came up with, its not too painful to adjust it to different scenes and give differnt effects. Also a lot of work can be done in post in after effects etc, such as relighting  etc etc...  The trick though is to get it all to seemlessly meld together so you can't 'see the joins'...thats the hard part.

For full boidy animations its worth looking into using adjusted mocap data to save on time, although that stuff is best avoided for creatures / monsters etc who need a certain 'feel' to their walk.

Ah, Aaron ... arguing for poor quality sculpts.  =)  With such passion! And as if anyone minds a hodgepodge as long as the faces are good.

We just do the best we can. That's how you save the world, just do the best you can.

As I said, if you're feeling rough about your 3D work, just work on stuff that isn't human faces for a while.

Thanks guys.

The problem is, the area I am working into getting into is facial work....

I am playing around with mocap later on next week, we have a system that will be setup that could be used on the PotD project, but I need to do some tests and find out what the quality is like over how much work it takes after to clean up all the data. But it looks promising.
