It’s been a few days now, and I have been forming in my mind a possible timeline for the project. It will probably begin to drag out. I feel that we should at least have the pretence of having some goals.  So, I am going to put forward a possible series of events, and jobs that people should be working on.

If your unhappy with this, or have a better idea, then yell out.

Oct. 2007
This month, we should be working on character tests and style tests. Just about universally, we decided to go with very realistic characters, with photo textures. Over this month, I think everyone who can should work on trying to produce a character, any character in this style, to prove that it can be done.

During this time, I will keep looking for set photographs we can use for reference, and work on producing character tests with solid colour characters, so we have something to compare with, and have a choice later on.

Nov- Dec 2007

Over this time, we must decide what style of character we can make, based what skills we have.

MonkeyTennis, unless you are interested in character creation, I think it’s a good idea, if your job is to work on creating the sets, it’s something you seem to have a handle on, and you have already created some very good versions of the sets already.

Also, Make sure all the sets are made to the same scale. What software are you using? It would be fantastic if you could use Maya, however does mean learning a new package. The upside is, all the shading networks would stay intact, and would make character animation much easier, if all the shots were done in the same software. I am not sure what you think about this.

Jan – April 2008

We work on making the characters, and getting them up to scratch.

I would like all the sets to be completed and have sets lit. Basically getting all the assets up and working.

If we decide to do a layout pass, most the work on Eps 1-3 will be done now.

April – Dec 2008

Rigging and weighting character, as well as animation / sync tests
Also, Finishing off the layout pass of all 6 Eps.

Jan – April 2009

Animation of Episodes 1-3

April – Dec 2009
Rendering & compositing 1-3
Animation of 4-6

Jan – April 2010
Rendering 4-6
Finish compositing.

Offer to the BBC.

So, that's my plan as it stands. More details as I imagine them. Ha.

It's an ambitious plan.  Are we still on schedule?

Oh it is, I finish my major work. Classes / exams over in a week or so, so I will be working full time on the project until Mid Janurary.

I am going on holidays then, for a fortnight. Then I am full time on this again until March.

So now, I just need to get all the assets together. Speaking of - MARC!

Hey dudes.

I am starting my holidays in an hour or so, and will therefore be working off line on my home workstation, and therefore will only be online somewhat sporadically. I'm sorry about that, but if I am online, then no work still happen, and so on. Marc, obviously your in charge, make any changes you want. Any questions, to Marc.

So, this is my plan for what people should be working on now

Marc, is working on cutting up the audio, he will distribute copies to relevant people as needed. I would appreciate a copy of the whole thing. In terms of respecting copyright, could you just PM links to people. I don't want to get us into any more trouble then we are in.

Could you also check out if our two new forum members are interested in partaking in the project, nether seem to have said a yes or no, but make sure they are aware of the commitment.

Monkey Tennis, you now have the camera scripts, could you look at those sections of script of the Dalek production line scenes and them in their capsule. Please nothing in the corridor except for the end explosions.

You also have the "TARDISode" or missing scene, (Ha! or PotD-Cutaway)  if you would like to experiment with that, that would be great.

Meanwhile, I will be making a number of sets, including "Rest Room" "Hensell's Office" "Power Room" as well as investigating the pros and cons of using Z-brush meshes in maya and sorting problems of importing 3DS files into maya. I will also finish off my 2nd Doctor model, just for completeness.

Any problems, comments ask Marc,

Cheers All.

Power of the Daleks Update
23rd Aug 2008

Um. Time for a little update.

It looks like this thread has has about 500 views of so, so I think people might come here to find out what is going on. So - time for a news round up.

Characters

Well, we have decided with the characters, to ask a new member of the who3d team to make the characters, his name is silent repose, and is working in Maya. If you would like to see some examples of his work look here:

http://www.who3d.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=1104.0

So he is currently working at putting together a nice cast, and will take them as far as rigging. However, like many of us is a very busy man. However, we are very excited by all this.

Sets
At the moment our own MonkeyTennis is working on modeling the sets, he has recently moved into the world of Maya. (Hurrah!) So that should make things good for us. If you take a look here:

http://www.who3d.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=1138.0

You will see some of the examples of the sets he is working on. They are fantastically detailed, and yesterday he spent 2 hours working on the doorknob on the rest room. So at that rate we should be done by 2012 without a hitch.

Console Room Set
Marc has very almost finished his  console room set, that can be seen at:

http://www.who3d.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=913.75

And is looking very, very nice indeed. He has made this in Maya, and so we shouldn't have any problems across any of the platforms at all.

Audio
The team acquired a very, very nice copy of the Power of the Daleks audio a few months ago, so when everything is ready, we will have fantastic timing, and will be able to hear what's going on.

Where too next?
Well, once we have the characters and sets nailed down properly, we should we well on track for blocking out the animation. We are still looking for good Maya character animators, most of us here can, but we have very few real experts. Either way, we will pick it up, and get it done.

So. That's where things stand.

Colonel Barker.
